We are your neighbors and local business owners who voted to build the Kellogg treatment plant and system. We have paid for it with taxes, fees, and service rates over many years and are trying to place some common sense into sewage treatment in our district without paying for it again. If Clackamas County gets their way without a vote, their Clearwater plan will: Increase our monthly service rates Demolish our award-winning treatment plant Pump our sewage uphill 6 miles to Oregon City Triple the size of the Oregon City plant and the total plan will cost us over $1.7 billion with a debt scheme that will last 40 years! To put a stop to this financial nightmare, we have filed a referendum on the Clearwater plan and rate increase to let the voters decide what is best for our district. Here are some reasons why you should support saving the Kellogg treatment plant: In 2002 we spent millions on new pumps, new electrical, backups, state of the art filtering, and UV disinfection systems Our plant exceeds all federal and state standards On the financial side: The plant is almost paid off We have $15.7 million in cash reserves Rate increases will not be needed for at least 5 years There is a low cost alternative available for new growth Do you really want to give up our community asset and go into a massive debt scheme for the next 40 years when a low cost alternative is available? __________________________________________________________ Information on this web page comes from the Clearwater studies, drafts, financial statements, and both public and secret meeting agreements. |
