"We've had teenagers who haven't been able to go down the stairs because
someone there with a pit bull makes them pay a fee to go down."

So beginning in July, TriMet, the Portland Police Bureau's East Precinct,
transit police, city planners, Oregon Department of Transportation and
neighborhood groups on both sides of Interstate 84 met to apply crime
prevention design to one of the city's oldest light-rail stops

--------Cut from Article---------
The station was built in 1986 --the year Portland police won a grant
from the U.S. Department of Justice to use environmental design to deter
crime and before the city became a national model for crime prevention
through environmental design, without resorting to a "prison camp" look.
Now a handful of new safety features could make the station a crime
prevention model, said Tim Garling, TriMet's director of safety and security.
