Summary: The agency's director of security credits the attentiveness
of Hillsboro
and Beaverton police for keeping crime at bay More
than a year and half after
MAX started running on the westside, police
say it is one of the safest ways to
travel from Hillsboro to downtown Portland.

"Some people thought it would open the door
(for crime), and
it just hasn't," said Officer Mark Hyde, Beaverton
police spokesman.
------Cut-----
(Tri-Met's director of security, Cliff
) Jensen said policing
efforts have kept MAX safe. There were early

the potential for increased gang activity.
"I

Jensen said. "If they didn't do
